Proposition 4 - Teen Abortion Notice

California's Proposition 4 supports that at least one parent (family member) would be notified before a daughter under 18 years of age would have an abortion. Quite frankly, I am wondering what in the world happened that allowed this to NOT be a right of the parent.

Seriously! A teenager under 18 cannot get a tan, or a cavity filled, or even an aspirin (or antacid or vitamin) dispensed by a school nurse without a parent being notified. Let's see - abortion vs aspirin... are you kidding me?

Forget religion. Forget God. Let's just put our thinking cap on for just a moment. Who proposes we do this? Who in the world would vie for such a horrific policy? Who funds this? Well, it's none other than Planned Parenthood... the nations largest abortion provider.

WOW - now that's rich! I wonder if they make a few dollars each year on underage abortions. I wonder how much money they stand to lose if this Prop gets passed by Californians.

My friends - this isn't primarily about God and me being a pastor. If a doctor did any procedure like this on my underage daughter, without my permission, there would be hell to pay. I truly cannot believe that this great state allowed such a preposterous idea to even be a consideration, let alone policy. Vote YES for Proposition 4.

Good post, it truly is disturbing that this was something proposed and really shows how low this country has gotten. So sad. I really hope that the citizens of this amazing country do the right thing. All life needs to be cherished and abortion certainly is a modern day holocaust.

Thanks for the feedback Matt, David and Tammy. Not just because you agree - but because you care.

Thank you Barry for blogging on this issue-I VERY important one to me!
Yes, Planned Un-Parenthood stands to lose ALOT of money on this-it isn't
about the safety of our daughters (as opponents like to point out...) but about
all the money PP would stand to lose as well as the control they would lose
that would be given back to the parents-WHERE IT BELONGS!
And, by the way, it is perfectly legal to perform abortions on minors....Sickening....

Cindy, thanks for stopping by the site. I have been texting Tammy tonight at the Pregnancy event. She thinks it has been outstanding.

I see abortion as an horrific example as to how far our culture has fallen. That said, exactly which member of the family would an under age child turn to other than the parent? Grandmother, Aunt, Uncle? Several years ago I worked on an adolescent psychiatric ward. Living there for a short time was a 14 year old that was raped by her father. Exactly who is she to tell? Her father, or her mother that did not believe her. This child, unfortunately, thought abortion was her only choice. She was terrified, and just wanted everything to be over, including her own life. Is taking your own life when you are pregnant considered abortion? This proposition and many like it are well intentioned, and make sense in our view of the world. Unfortunately, they do not deal with dirty side of life where things become complicated. Where was the support system for this child? Where is the support system for her child?

    Mike,
It is impossible to try and imagine each scenario. The one you have mentioned is a horrible situation... and one that shouldn't be taken lightly. However, the exceptions to the rules will always exist (not that this is... or is not... an exception.) We cannot base the 'right' decision on extreme cases of exceptions. I empathize - but do not want to vote based on obscure yet very real scenarios. There are thousands and thousands of cases for every exception. Thanks for the insight.

    Barry,

It will be a great day in America when Roe V. Wade is overturned. My last post was not based on how to vote for the proposition. As you can see at the end of the post, I posed a question directed at anyone that can answer. The organizations responsible for propositions 4 and 8 spend a great deal of time and energy trying to get the word out to the general public with regards to "protecting marriage" and "protecting the unborn fetus". When they have become successful at these two very noble tasks, what next? Will they launch a public campaign to "protect marriage" further by eliminating from T.V. shows like "Who want's to marry a millionaire" and the plethora of other shows that seek to degrade the institution of marriage for the sake of ratings? Will they eliminate fly by night marriages in Las Vegas? My guess is a flat no.
With respect to the young child and mother. Will these organizations launch a campaign to set enact social programs that take care of the mother and child and prevent them living in a life of poverty? Will they push for social programs to get the word out in the schools to educate and limit the break up of the family where the father is no longer around? Will these organizations lead the cause to keep the father in the home so that our daughters feel loved and respected so that they don't have to go and fall into the back seat of the car driven by the first sweaty boy that tell's them falsely, that they are loved? My guess is no.
These issues are far more complex and difficult, not to mention costly. I have written to Tony Perkins of The Family Research Council and still have not gotten a response. Only through strong faith and solid leadership can the multitude of unwanted marriages and pregnancies be eliminated. For this, I look to these large organizations with money and influence to get the ball rolling. Organizations like Focus On The Family are already doing this to some degree. The problem is they do it within the confines of the community or church that is most likely to hear them. The messages listed above and many others need to be on TV and radio programs that are not just heard or watched by the faithful, but also the GENERAL PUBLIC.

Mike, great stuff. Thanks for sharing. Not sure what to do - but I get where you're coming from.
