    Vote For God As President

I know, I know.  Don't get political.  After all, I'm a pastor, right?  Yes - but voting is not just about the issues or morals... it's about God.  Too often, Christians will ONLY look at the morality of a leader.  In addition, too often we don't look at morals enough in our candidates.

Voting is not just about our rights, it's about our obligation.  Please, get out there and vote - and as best you can, vote for God on your ballots.  Here is a simple 'score card' for the presidency.

Additionally, consider the long-term ramifications of not only your decisions but your accusations as well.  Society is full-on blaming Bush for the economic crisis in lending.  However, they seem to forget that the Clinton administration had a lot to do with the sub-prime market to begin with.  Oh how easily we forget.

Our world will be different by the way we vote.  Certainly, California is an entirely different animal compared to most of the rest of the USA.  And that's not really a compliment.  The liberal agenda is off the hizzle... and it shows.

Your "scorecard" is obviously flawed. Are you depending on "Christian Based" news feeds??? If you are going to further divide our nation with the "VOTE GOD" card you could at least be accurate on current events and policies, including accurate "scorecards". Come on pastor, stick to your day job.

Dear "Too Chicken to Register Your Name"

Since the point of this blog is to encourage people to vote for God, why wouldn't the author use a Christian source? That has nothing to do with the accuracy of the claims. If you ask the candidates (and many have) or look at their voting records, these are where they stand on these issues. In fact, more than any recent election, we have a clear choice. Both candidates (as well as the veeps) agree on the issues facing our great nation. They disagree on what to do about them and which direction to take the country. Read more on my blog. Pastor, you can moonlight as a political blogger anytime.

Reality (if that is your real name),
Thanks for the comment. Glad to see people reading the blog. Interesting choice of words. If the 'voting God' card further divides our nation... I suppose I would choose to be on the "God-side" of that division... after all, my day job is a pastor. I personally don't think voting God divides anything. And if it does, so be it. I would have liked to have sent you an email - but you chose to be anonymous. I would ask that you provide me with accurate events, policies and scorecards. Not interested in starting a war here... but I really would like to see those... esp where the above scorecard would be wrong.

Kirk (if that is your real name), :)
Thanks for the comment. No plans to be a political correspondent... but it sure is interesting what gets people excited... its a shame that people across this nation get more passionate about politics than they do God. (this statement is NOT directed at "Reality" above... just a generalization of our country)

I totally agree with Kirk 100% on his comment and opinion.

I also totally agree 100% with barryonline.com-Barry Smith on his comment too.

Excellent and nice way of responding, but giving your opinion back to Reality in what he posted that you made on your own website which I agree with you.

    October 4, 2008 at 2:10 AM | Unregistered CommenterDavid D.

wow! why don't you require people to put their name in if you are going to bash them for remaining anonymous? Too chicken to put your name??? Thats very Chrisitan like. We don't respect people for their right to have their own opinion or is it if they don't think the way we think they should on politics they are wrong??? I personally don't feel Bush or McCain are Biblical. They are war mongers and thousands of lives have been sacrificed for oil!!!! When is killing ever biblical? You teach that we have ALL fallen short of the glory of God and no one's sin is greater than another. right??? Also, I find it offensive that Christians find it acceptable to openly bash gays in church, at church and its acceptable. Nice.

October 4, 2008 at 8:16 AM | Unregistered CommenterAnother reality

Well, I apologize if I offended, that was not my intent, nor do I think anyone is being bashed here. I agree with "Another Reality" that it is horrible when some churches claim to be following Christ and spend way too much time belittling other people for their choices. Fortunately, that doesn't happen in my church, nor in any church that truly teaches the way to follow Jesus. It does happen in many (Christian and non-Christian) religions where people start tearing other people down in order to make themselves feel superior and I agree, that is not a Christ-like attitude.
I'll let the author speak for himself, but I can't find anywhere in this blog where a particular candidate is being supported for being more "Christian" than any other. Although the idea that the Iraq War is, or ever was, about oil is quite antiquated and abandoned long ago by all but a very few, I think that we all agree that war is never a good choice. We may disagree, however, on whether it is sometimes necessary and, if so, when. As for this blog, however, the point is not to tell readers what is biblical, but rather to point out the candidates actual positions on issues of importance to many Christians and let the readers decide which way to vote based on issues rather than personalities.

    October 4, 2008 at 9:22 AM | Unregistered CommenterKirk

    Another reality,
Let's slow down just a tad here and get back to the basics of the blog in question. Vote God. Find as much God in any candidate or policy or Proposition - and vote that. If you are not a Christian, no sweat. Vote your conscience. It's all good. But as followers of Christ - it can never be wrong to vote God. And if one party or candidate or Proposition generally falls closer to the Bible than another - then I would 'generally' follow that party, candidate or Proposition.

But a couple of clarifications... to say Bush and McCain are NOT Godly because we are at war... that is more than a stretch. To ask when is killing ever biblical? Wow - just turn to the Old Testament. It's not that God is some sadistic kid over an anthill with a magnifying glass on a hot day... but He does NOT take sin lightly. Never has. He is holy.

I appreciate your opinion. Glad you stopped by and commented on the blog. Hope to see you back often. Maybe one day - we could have an offline email dialog - or perhaps even a phone call. If not, that's ok too. Let's keep this blog a spirited and positve place where everyone can input. Sorry if you felt 'attacked.' Next blog should be about flowers or tropical fish or something :)

I agree totally with both Kirk and barryonline.com 100% with there recent comments back to Reality.

While there were certainly wars in the Bible, I do not agree that it condones it. Jesus commanded us to Love our enemies and pray for those who persecute us. I think he meant those words. I also think that Jesus is who we are called to pattern our lives after, the prince of peace, not the wrath of God in the old testament. I think that the lack of opposition to the hell that is war by much of the American church is a major flaw and in many cases is putting being an American above being a follower of Christ. So I guess on the topic of war, the question is, can we love our enemies and turn around and end their lives? Some food for thought.

    October 7, 2008 at 1:16 PM | Unregistered CommenterMatt

    Matt,
Thanks so much for the food for thought... butI just had lunch, so I'm a bit full. :)

It sounds like there is some pretty deep-seeded roots with you on this topic... and at the risk of pushing buttons - I would like to comment on your comment. Yes, God is love. Yes, Jesus said a lot of things... and much of it was about peace. But God is Jesus' father. And God not only condoned war... He repeatedly ordered the direct execution of numerous people. He even had the earth open up and swallow people right in front of other Israelites. He sent the plagues... the last one was particularly difficult. He murdered a married couple for lying... even though they were selling their land and giving tons of money to God's people. On and on it goes. Call it murder, justice, discipline, war, or anything else you like. But God hates sin. He hates it terribly. In fact, the final straw was when God MURDERED His own Son, Jesus. To think that God or the bible does not involve war, murder, etc would be a misnomer. Again - sorry if this is a hot-button.

God is most certainly about grace and love - and that is beauty of Jesus... He was murdered at the cross so that our punishment for SIN has been taken care of. For that I am eternally grateful. Thanks again for stopping by and the response.

    October 8, 2008 at 3:51 PM | Registered CommenterBarryOnline.com

    Barry,
Thanks for your response. Jesus IS God. Not just his son. God became flesh and his name is Jesus(not that you didn't know that..haha). My point is that if Jesus tells us to do something, or to live a certain way, we need to try our absolute best to follow those COMMANDMENTS. As Christians, we are to pattern our lives after the life of Jesus..period. That is all I meant by my first comment. And again, of course there were wars and all types of death and stuff going on in the old testament, many times commissioned by God, however, Jesus is who is to show us how to live, Jesus is to show us how to treat others, Jesus is to show us how to form our world views. HE is to be our example and who we pattern our lives after. You are right, God hates sin a great deal. That's why we are called to show his love to those trapped in sin and those who haven't been released by the sting of death and I think we need to reach out in love in every way we can to those people.

    Matt,
And that brings us full circle back to voting GOD as President! :)

I agree! I think I literally might write in Jesus! haha

    October 10, 2008 at 3:42 AM | Unregistered CommenterMatt

While I respect the right an opinion, I challenge those who have such strong views on war being "right" or "wrong" to actually put the uniform on and go to war. Those of us that have been there know the reality of war and understand the consequences. All the rest, are merely casual observers.
