Daylight Saving Time and My Kids…
Monday, March 10, 2008 at 9:40 AM So, we lost an hour of sleep this weekend. No big deal; just put the kids in bed a little earlier than normal, except we had to go shopping for shoes. So, we ended up going to bed a little later than planned. We kept trying to rush the kids saying, “We lose an hour of sleep tonight, so hurry up and get to sleep.”
I could tell they were like, “Whatever. We’re not going to lose any sleep.” That is, until morning. I approached Taryn’s conspicuously dark room first. Sound asleep. I turned on the bright light in the center of the room. You know, the ceiling fan light with four bright mini-lights on it? Taryn basically shouted, “NOOOOOO, it’s too early.”
Max was next. In the spirit of fairness, I turned on his ‘not-so-bright’ light. You know, then ceiling fan light with the one 3.5 watt bulb that brings a nice ‘hue’ to the room at night? Max didn’t budge. I went over and nudged him… “Time to get up,” I gently advised him. He complied but had this statement while I hugged him at the edge of his bed, “I don’t want to go to church.” I said, “Really?” with a somewhat surprised tone in my voice. He quickly responded with, “Well, I just don’t want to go to church NOW!”
I love my kids. I love the fact that they are typically at the church building from 8:00am to 1:00pm almost every Sunday and rarely do we hear a complaint. I love the fact that they can get themselves ready in the morning. I love that my son is turning 8 tomorrow… which is just one day older than Impact (he was born the day before our Grand Opening launch of this church). I love the fact that my kids seem to think they know, on the front end, what’s best for them. And I love to hear those precious quips that come out of their mouths from time to time, “I just don’t want to go to church NOW!”
I’m also loving that Daylight Saving Time is behind us.
