Hung Out With Brennan Manning Today…
Wednesday, March 5, 2008 at 10:37 PM Today, three Impact pastors and I had the privilege of ‘hanging out’ with Brennan Manning at William Jessup University for a couple hours. 300 other Christian leaders from the Sacramento area were there too.
If you don’t know Brennan, he has written numerous books like, “The Ragamuffin Gospel” “Abba’s Child: The Cry of the Heart for Intimate Belonging” and “The Importance of Being Foolish: How to Think Like Jesus.” Brennan spent 2 hours lecturing on the heart and love of God for His children… you and me.
Although I was probably a bit hesitant to get so ‘touchy feely’ in the middle of the morning, especially after having about 4.5 hours of sleep last night, I was blown away by the personal stories he shared. The abuse of his mother and disengagement of his father caused this poor guy to have few, if any, healthy relationships growing up. And as I looked up his books on Amazon, I saw that he writes most of his material out of his pain.
It’s interesting… we are all experts on ourselves. We speak out of our experience. And Brennan’s main point was that we cannot fully be the people God has called us to be unless we love ourselves by understanding God’s unconditional love for us. It is immense and unlimited.
