I’m Just Not Getting Fed Anymore…
Wednesday, July 2, 2008 at 6:41 AM It's amazing to me the number of people who put their 'trust' in the church for their spiritual growth. Don't get me wrong, as the leader of Impact, I'm honored and flattered in my 'flesh' about it. But it's just not right… it's not biblical.
Willow Creek published a major study called "Reveal." In the findings of the Willow research, the main focus was the role the local church had in the spiritual growth of its members. What they found was staggering… and yet, predictable for those who 'get it.'
People put too much emphasis, long term, on the weekend gathering of the local church for their personal growth. And as people begin to mature, they become disgruntled and claim, "I'm just not getting 'fed' at church anymore." If I had a dollar for every time I heard that…
My kids are now 6 and 8. They used to need my wife and me to feed them their meals. It wasn't long before they learned to 'feed' themselves. In fact, to 'spoon feed' my kids now… it would be kind of embarrassing for both of us. Is it possible that you place too much emphasis on what happens on Sunday from 9am-12noon for your spiritual growth? Don't get me wrong, we all need the weekend service and can grow by it. But if you are basing your personal growth on what happens Sunday morning, you will be immature to say the least. And it won't be long before you'll be singing that familiar song, "I'm Just Not Getting Fed Anymore." Don't fall into the trap – develop your own walk with Christ EVERY DAY by implementing the HABITS necessary for growth!
