Five Vacation Lessons
Friday, July 25, 2008 at 6:45 AM My family and I just returned from a vacation in Florida. We were there mainly to spend time with my aging parents (84 & 85yrs of age). We accomplished that goal and then some. Not only did we get to the beach, take lots of naps, and get to play copious amounts of Euchre (cards) with my parents, we also got to attend the Mote Aquarium in Sarasota. Max and Taryn petted stingrays and saw huge sea turtles, manatees and sharks up close and personal. It was a great visit.
Looking back, there were a few lessons learned. ‘They’ say that hindsight is always 20/20… I think I need new glasses. I’ve numbered these lessons for you.
5. Redeye flights, although cheap, take a huge toll on the family… esp now that I’m in my 40’s (gulp… I just wrote that out loud)
4. Shuttles don’t run from airports to hotels at 3am
3. Air Tran Airlines employees (at least the visible ones) are not the friendliest people I’ve ever met
2. When needing to ‘catch up’ on sleep because you’ve only had maybe 2 hours for the night, don’t count on your elementary age kids to ‘need’ that sleep as well… they will be up MUCH sooner than you would have liked
1. The older you get, the more days you need to recover from your vacation… esp when two redeye flights are involved
I suppose the lessons have been learned. The big question is, “Would I do it all over again?” Answer – Yep!
