    Global Lukewarming...

I haven't jumped on a soapbox in quite a while. Now seems like as good of time as any. Check out this video - it's less than 3 minutes and well worth your time.

If you don't see the video - click here!

I am still blown away that TV & Media has not jumped all over this. Why has Al Gore not been pummeled with this news? Why doesn't someone offer to take back his Nobel Peace Prize?

I realize this 'issue' is near and dear to many of your hearts. But once again, these drastic measures that Obama and other well-meaning 'green' proponents are going to affect (hurt) the American people... mainly lower income families. You can You can read more specifics at The Tax Foundation website.

Here is the article from WeGetIt.org - a summary of the Tax Foundation article.

    Let them eat cake

If the U.S. government adopts a cap-and-trade program to reduce CO2 emissions to fight global warming, it'll cost the average U.S. household $1,218 per year--or the whole nation $144.8 billion per year.

That's the conclusion of a new report by the Tax Foundation, which explains that the burden would fall disproportionately on "low-income households, those under age 25 and over 75, residents of southern states, and single parents with dependent children." For those in the bottom fifth of income earners, the hit would equal about 6.2% of their household income; for those in the top fifth, about 1.4%.

That makes cap-and-trade a highly regressive tax.

Great Video and very informative. I miss the old you of being the soapbox-Billy Graham style preacher, that is what drew me to your church which was 4 years ago. I am glad you haven’t changed man.

Thanks, Barry, for the perspective offered if this short video.

I have some concerns about the way this short video pokes holes in Gore's documentary and Obama's Green agenda.

Despite the obvious biases in Inconvenient Truth, and alleged exaggerations of evidence, we must not underestimate the absolute urgency for better caring for the world our God has created, and how for instance the planned obsolescence of artificial goods in our capitalist economy has diseased our culture, our wallets, our relationships, our futures, and the planet itself, unless we counter such materialism by resuming some of the greenest, most holy lifestyle changes since the consolation of Genesis 3:17-19.

In terms of our agreement that we must consider carefully whether to support Obama's plain if, among other things, electricity prices would skyrocket, let us never forget that the houses of American Christians more than likely have enough extra bedrooms to eradicate homelessness in this country, if not in the hemisphere. Before we worry too much about electricity price increases from government initiatives, let us show the government and our culture why it should listen to the voice of the Church, perhaps (for example) by opening our doors for people who have needs that make the need for electricity laughable.

(Soapboxes are slippery. I've fallen off mine many itmes...)
Blessings to you and yours! :)

Alan, great to hear from you. Glad you're still carrying that compassionate heart. Very cool. As for Obama and such - didn't want to get too much into that. I'll give you that. But the Gore thing... there's way more than a couple of holes or exaggerations. Sorry man, gotta completely disagree there... slippery soap box or not. Have a great week!
