It's official. Mike Vander Dussen started at Impact Community Churchon October 1, 2010 as our Development Pastor. His roots are from Chino Hills, CA and, believe it or not, he's a Lakers fan... I can't believe we hired him. Let it be known we're an equal opportunity employer.
What is a Development Pastor? At Impact - that's a guy who will help 'develop' all things Impact. He'll come along side our leaders, pastors and directors to help us all develop our ministries. He'll help us take it to the next level. He'll be a strong encourager and supporter along the way as well.
Impact is unbelievably blessed by having the caliber of leader on our team. I'm so excited about Mike, our team, and especially our future in the Elk Grove and Sacramento area. www.impact.cc has its best days right in front of us.
Mike will also be a regular teaching pastor at Impact. His first weekend to speak is October 30/31. Be sure to join us for that weekend and I hope you get to meet Mike really soon.

Friday, December 18, 2009 at 11:53 AM Wanted you to have an update on my trip to Chiang Mai, Thailand this past October. It was truly an amazing trip and I'm so appreciative of our Church Planting Network that provided the opportunity for me to participate in this incredible training.
Although the challenge was primarily for those who are actually on the field and effectively reaching unengaged and unreached people groups with the message of Jesus... Graydon & Judy Jessup (of STADIA INTERNATIONAL) allowed me the opportunity to experience the Jonathan Training along with them.
Our goal was to understand what the Jonathan Project was all about and somehow effectively communicate that concept to American Churches so that they can participate in global church planting and life change as well. So here is my 'recap' of the two weeks of training.

Tuesday, May 19, 2009 at 12:48 PM This is my third year of doing 100 hours of prayer. But this time, I'm not doing it 2 weeks in a row. I'm splitting it up over a couple weeks. That gives me a little time to process and be more strategic.
My main focus is truly whatever God brings up in my head. Scary place, I know. I focus a lot of time on the church, the vision, our spiritual depth, etc. But, then again, God might prompt me to focus some time on my family or on my to-do list.
It's a trip just following His lead. If I just wasn't so darned easily distracted. I guess that's why I shouldn't be writing this blog. Better go - see ya later.

Mark your calendars right now... seriously... get out a pen and block out May 21 from 7:00-8:30pm. I'd like to see EVERYONE in the Sacramento / Elk Grove area out at First Baptist Church to pray for our community... while enjoying some worship as well.
The City Hope 2009 campaign is coming this Fall and this special prayer time is only going to last an hour and a half - and it will be well worth it. We are gathering as 'one body' to seek God's face for what HE wants to do in Elk Grove. Who does HE want to reach? What specifically does HE want to change? What does HE expect of the church? How is HE going to use us to see more lives changed?
Won't you join us for this important time together? We will be praying for our city in the areas of Revival, Reconciliation, Renewal and Provision.
Imagine... for six weeks this Fall... we won't be Impact Community Church or First Baptist Church or LifePointe Christian Church. NOPE! We will ALL just be, "The Church In Elk Grove."

I cannot believe this but it is finally true... my first published book is out right now. WOO HOO!
It's called "Full Discosure: Exposing Church Planting Blind Spots" and was co-written with Dr. Stephen Gray, Director of the General Baptist National Missions.

I cannot begin to describe how amazing this past Easter at Impact was. Not only did we have a record attendance of over 1200 and enjoyed watching three baptisms - but well over a dozen (around 15 or so) gave their life to Christ for the very first time.
To say that the place was charged with energy and the Holy Spirit would be an extreme understatement. Easter is always such a great time to worship our God.
Here's the weird thing though. The SAME Holy Spirit is available and active each and every day (Sunday) in churches around the world. We don't NEED Easter to get us pumped up. We don't NEED a special day or event to connect with God.
Too often, the week after Easter is somewhat of a letdown at church. Let's not let that happen. Instead, let's worship Jesus again THIS SUNDAY with the same passion, anticipation and excitement as last Sunday. Go to church this Sunday and EXPECT God to show up!

I was driving to work this past week and saw this PT Cruiser directly in front of me. I couldn't help but think, that is AWESOME!
I wish i could have pulled them over to see how it was done. Did they buy it that way? Did they put black tape on there to form the word "Cruizin?"
I guess it doesn't matter HOW they did it... it's that they did it and it made me smile.
Here's the thing... I bet they had NO IDEA that it made me smile. They have probably had that 'cruizin' brake-light for as long as they've had the car. And at this point, they're probably oblivious. And yet, the blessing of a smile just keeps being given.
I think Impact Community Church is a lot like that. We have an awesome staff, great facility, wonderful people who consistently, serve, greet, teach, encourage and generally bless most every person who comes through the doors of the church.
And my guess - most of the people of our church are just oblivious to the great things that are continuing to go on each and every week (day) within our body. Just remember, when we continue to walk in Christ - the people we come in contact with (behind us) are repeatedly receiving smiles because of our lives and ministry - over and over again!

For those of you who do not attend Impact, you might want to check out the latest series we're doing at Impact. It's called, "The ABC's Of Financial Freedom." We're studying the book and basing the series from Barry Cameron's work in Arlington, TX.
I rededicated my life under Barry's leadership. Incredible guy with a great track record of financial management. The guy is completely debt free and so is his church. It's quite a remarkable story.

We are coming up on week 4 of the 30 Days Of Sex (taken from the Relevant Church in Tampa, FL - Paul & Susie Wirth's book cover is displayed here) and it has been a wild ride. I must admit, after the initial Sacramento Bee article, we have had overwhelming support from the media and extended friends of the church.
From the Fox 40 News piece we did last week, there was a gal overheard in her office who will be participating with her husband in the 30 Days of Intimacy. I know of an atheist couple that is actually going through it as well... go figure!
I am SO thrilled we decided to do this about a year ago. It has been good for the church and for the kingdom as numerous people are now closer to their God... closer in their marriages... and getting counseling in areas that have got away from them. GO GOD!

One thing for sure, the media has eaten series thing up. Jennifer Garza from the Sacramento Bee was the first to break the story here. Since then, I have done a nationally syndicated show based out of New York at ABC News Radio.
Today, January 22, I will be doing a video taping at my office for a local TV station - Fox 40 News. In addition, I'll be doing a live radio show today as well at 3:40pm PST with KFBK Radio. You can actually click here and listen live (toward the right of the website) if you'd like to hear it.
Please continue to pray for Impact and for me as many people without all the facts have attacked and accused me and our church of all sorts of things... among those that I am the anti-Christ and a wolf in sheep's clothing. Just last week, I was just Barry. :) It's all good - but I would appreciate your prayers.

Bosses day was celebrated today at Impact. We had an awesome home-cooked lunch at church followed by a couple of personal cards filled with kind comments.
On our table was a little bag full of goodies... snacks, candy, and a small bag full of quarters. What's this for? Maybe it has something to do with the fact we had to wear something 'white' AND that there were two 'glow bracelets' in each of our bags.
YEP - we were then headed off to "Monster Mini-Golf" and arcade. See picture. Great stuff. It's awesome having an appreciative staff. Impact is a great place to work.
